Skin Deep meets 47Soul

We chatted to 47Soul about dancehall, borders and creating music of resistance in diaspora.

Skin Deep contributor Courtney Yusuf caught up with two members of 47Soul, a Palestinian electro dabke band formed in Amman, Jordan. Hailing from Palestine and its diaspora, the group draws much from the concept of Bilad al-Sham – the broader region of the Levant and it’s overlapping peoples and cultures. They discuss the influence of dancehall and how the multiculturalism of London’s music scene has shaped the visions of their own homeland that they share through their music.

You can still catch them on their European tour. They’ll be playing again in London on the 18th of May 2018.
