As part of the BFI’s UK-wide BLACK STAR season dedicated to black stardom, the BFI Southbank is currently hosting Separate Cinema, an exhibition of the first 100 years of black poster art.

Selected from one of the most extensive private archives of African-American film memorabilia in the world, the posters on display chart the history of black stardom from early Hollywood to today, and include artwork for Foxy Brown, In the Heat of the Night, Shaft and many more.

Separate Cinema runs until the 2nd of January 2017 as part of BFI BLACK STAR, and you can buy the book, Separate Cinema: The First 100 years of Black Poster Art, from the BFI Shop and website.
